Job Advert Summary    

  • An opportunity has arisen for a Workshop Manager responsible for the repair of plant, machinery and equipment and the quality control. Manages a group of technicians and artisans.

Minimum Requirements    

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic (trade papers essential)
  • Grade 12 / Matric / NQF level 4, Diploma / NQF level 6
  • Up to 5 years experience

Mechanical Expertise

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic (trade papers essential) – already included.
  • Strong understanding of internal combustion engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and vehicle electrics.
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical faults.

Fleet & Equipment Management

  • Hands-on experience with truck, trailer, and plant machinery maintenance.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance schedules and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with fleet management software for service tracking, reporting, and cost analysis.

Workshop Operations

  • Experience managing workshop layouts for efficiency and safety.
  • Knowledge of tool, equipment, and parts inventory control.
  • Ability to implement quality control procedures and safety standards (OHSA, ISO, etc.)

Technical Planning & Reporting

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, service manuals, and specifications.
  • Competent in developing maintenance plans, budgets, and performance reports.
  • Knowledge of vehicle inspection protocols and compliance with legal requirements.

Advanced Diagnostics & Innovation

  • skilled in using diagnostic tools, scanners, and modern workshop equipment.
  • Ability to research and implement new maintenance technologies for efficiency.
  • Experience with environmentally friendly and cost-effective repair solutions.

Training & Team Development

  • Ability to train and mentor technicians and artisans in technical skills and safety standards.
  • Ensures continuous skills development in line with industry trends.

Duties & Responsibilities    

  • Manage the workshop team
  • Develop and maintain a sound relationship with operations staff and suppliers
  • Manage the fleet maintenance programme
  • Manage the budget vehicle maintenance costs to acceptable levels
  • Manage stores stock levels and the purchase of replacement parts and equipment
  • Working knowledge of maintaining a haulage fleet comprising of truck, trailers and loading equipment
