Job Advert Summary    

  • To take full ownership of the entire tyre lifecycle within the freight fleet, bringing in a structured, data-driven approach aligned with operational goals.
  • The Tyre Manager is responsible for enhancing tyre-related cost savings, improving safety standards, and increasing vehicle uptime by optimizing the performance, compliance, and cost-efficiency of all tyres across the fleet. This includes policy development, vendor management, inspections, training, sustainability efforts, and KPI tracking.

Minimum Requirements    

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in tyre management or fleet maintenance, preferably in transport/logistics.
  • Deep knowledge of truck/trailer tyre specifications, fitting, balancing, retreading, and repair procedures.
  • Familiarity with tyre management and fleet maintenance systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and understanding of heavy vehicle operations and regulatory requirements.

Desirable:

  • Certification in Tyre Maintenance, Automotive Technology, or Fleet Management.
  • Experience with TPMS, telematics, and tyre data analytics.
  • Supervisory/team leadership experience.
  • Experience with systems such as Fleetio, Transpoco, or Bridgestone Toolbox.

Duties & Responsibilities    

Tyre Strategy, Policy & Lifecycle Management

  • Develop and implement tyre policies across the fleet to ensure standardization and compliance with OEM guidelines and road safety regulations.
  • Take ownership of the complete tyre lifecycle — from procurement to disposal — with the goal of aligning performance with operational objectives.
  • Select and procure tyres that offer the optimal balance of cost, performance, and durability for various vehicle and road applications.
  • Implement sustainability initiatives such as casing management, retreading programs, and eco-friendly disposal strategies.

Tyre Management & Maintenance

  • Oversee daily inspections of truck and trailer tyres for wear, damage, inflation, and compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate tyre replacement schedules based on tread depth, mileage, and condition.
  • Monitor tyre performance through pressure checks, tread depth tracking, failure analysis, and telemetry systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of tyre history, including fitment, rotation, repairs, and replacements.
  • Implement and monitor rotation and alignment programs to ensure even wear and maximize tyre life.

Vendor & Inventory Control

  • Manage on-site tyre inventory, ensuring availability of new, retread, and spare tyres.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, service providers, and retreaders.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts, SLAs, and pricing to achieve cost-effective procurement and retreading strategies.

Cost Control, Analysis & Reporting

  • Monitor and analyse tyre-related expenditure, seeking opportunities for cost optimization without compromising safety.
  • Use tyre management systems to track cost per kilometre, failure rates, and fuel efficiency impact.
  • Generate and present reports on usage, cost, scrap analysis, and performance KPIs.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all tyres comply with legal, industry, and safety standards.
  • Enforce tyre safety protocols and inspection procedures for drivers and yard staff.
  • Investigate all tyre-related failures or incidents and implement preventive measures.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Train and supervise tyre fitters or depot maintenance teams, ensuring proper fitment, repair, and safety practices.
  • Conduct regular workshops and training sessions for drivers and staff on tyre care, pressure checks, and reporting procedures.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture with an emphasis on accountability and preventive maintenance.
