Job Description:
As our Technology Roadmap Engineer your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental practices and requirements.
SHE policies and procedures:
- Escalate all unsafe practices or risks to the direct supervisor/manager.
- Support good housekeeping in the department and on-site to ensure compliance.
Performance and Delivery
Technology Assessment:
- Conduct thorough evaluations of existing and emerging technologies relevant to the sites.
- Research, test, and assess the suitability of various technologies for implementation.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including mining engineers, geologists, and operations managers, to align technology adoption with the overall operational strategy and goals.
Roadmap Development:
- Create a structured plan outlining the sequence of technology adoption and integration.
- Allow for short-term, medium-term, and long-term objectives.
Cost-Benefit Analysis:
- Conduct rigorous cost-benefit analyses to ensure that investments in new technologies align with financial objectives and deliver a positive return on investment.
Vendor and Supplier Management:
- Identify and engage with technology vendors and suppliers, negotiating contracts and managing relationships to ensure the timely and effective delivery of required technologies.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that all technologies adopted adhere to relevant industry regulations, environmental standards, and health and safety protocols.
Training and Implementation Support:
- Collaborate with training departments to develop programs that enable staff to use and manage new technologies effectively.
- Provide ongoing support during any implementation phase.
Monitoring and Evaluation:

- Implement systems to monitor the performance and impact of adopted technologies.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct periodic reviews.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks associated with technology adoption and develop mitigation strategies to minimise disruptions to operations.
Innovation Scouting:
- Keep abreast of industry trends, attending conferences and networking with industry experts to stay informed about the latest advancements in mining technology.
Collaboration with Research and Development teams in the industry:
- Partner with research and development teams, both internal and external, to explore and pilot innovative technologies that have the potential to revolutionise open-cast mining.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive records of technology adoption, progress, and outcomes.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on the status and impact of the technology roadmap.
Sustainability and Social:
- Participate in stakeholder engagements as relevant to the discipline and act consistently with sustainability expectations.
People and Teams:
- Support the development and implementation of a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the own team that is aligned with the company values, inclusivity, and promotes diversity.
- Act as a role model and actively engage as a team member in all team processes.
Compliance:
- Adhere to Anglo American requirements within the work area and as well as external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements related to discipline
This role is in Technical & Strategy (T&S) department on a band 6 (D4/D5) level reporting to the Head of Engineering
Qualifications:
- B-Degree in Engineering or BTech in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering/Information Technology/Computer Science (NQF7)
- SA Drivers Licence
Technical Knowledge
- 6-8 years of relevant experience and knowledge of technology systems.
- Experience in Plant and Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) operations.
- Abreast of Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) developments in Engineering, Maintenance, and Condition Monitoring techniques.
- Understand maintenance Practices (Planning, Execution and Reliability).
- Understand the selection and application of Equipment to fit operational requirements and provide technical support to solve complex problems.
