Job Purpose:

  • To provide high level technical advice and assistance and ensure effective analysis, planning and design of low and medium voltage electrical networks and service connections to provide electricity supplies to end users.

Key Responsibility Areas    

  • Analyse performance of electrical network and investigate and report on the failure of electrical apparatus.
  • Prepare, write and revise technical Codes of Practices and Work Procedures for planning, construction, operations and works.
  • Research and investigate new methods of electrical construction, repair and maintenance and conduct market searches in work procedures for the benefit of Electricity Unit.
  • Prepare and update technical specifications for services relating to planning, construction, operation and maintenance activities.
  • Request, specify and approve substation plans and buildings.
  • Provide technical advice and expertise to various divisions within the Electricity Unit on electrical equipment.
  • Liaise with customers, consultants, councillors and other authorities and participate on internal committees and workgroups.
  • Operate on medium voltage equipment and promotes safety at the workplace in accordance
  • with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Manage, monitor and develop the performance and conduct of subordinate staff.
  • Maintain reports, records and statistics and handle correspondence as required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering Technology (NQF Level 7) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered as a Candidate Electrical Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) within 3 months of employment.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 2 years relevant post qualification experience.
