- The Sports Content Writer will play a critical role in shaping Betway South Africa’s online presence across all social platforms. This role will be responsible for creating, publishing, managing, and optimising content that drives engagement, builds trust, and grows the Betway community. The ideal candidate is passionate about sports and culture, understands betting regulations in South Africa, and is skilled at balancing performance-driven campaigns with engaging brand storytelling.

What you’ll be doing
- Develop and implement daily content calendars across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
- Write, edit, and publish compelling copy that aligns with Betway’s brand voice and tone.
- Work with the creative studio to brief, review, and optimise social assets (graphics, videos, reels, etc.).
- Ensure content is compliant with South African advertising regulations and industry guidelines.
- Monitor and respond to customer queries, comments, and trends in real time with professionalism and personality.
- Manage live match-day coverage and real-time content creation during key sports events.
- Build and maintain relationships with fans, influencers, and sports communities to grow brand advocacy.
- Collaborate with the marketing and partnerships teams to amplify campaigns, sponsorships, and brand moments.
- Support paid media campaigns with organic amplification strategies.
- Manage competitions, giveaways, and gamification campaigns to drive participation and engagement.
- Track and report on content performance, engagement metrics, and audience insights.
- Recommend data-driven improvements to increase reach, engagement, and conversions.
- Monitor competitor activity and industry trends to keep Betway ahead in the social space.
Essential skills you’ll bring to the table
The necessary skills that we require for this role include:
- Strong understanding of sports culture (football, rugby, cricket, lifestyle & pop culture).
- Excellent copywriting and storytelling ability with a creative, witty edge.
- Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite).
- Knowledge of paid social fundamentals and how organic integrates with performance marketing.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret data into actionable insights.
- Resilient, proactive, and comfortable in fast-paced, high-pressure environments (e.g., live sports coverage).
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree/Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in social media management, preferably in sports, entertainment, or betting industries.
- Demonstrated success in growing and engaging social media audiences.
- Experience with influencer partnerships and online community building.
- Understanding of South African advertising laws, gambling regulations, and age-gating requirements.
