PURPOSE
- The role exists to execute and oversee multiple large- and small-scale projects, ensuring the effective management of safety, risk, technical and commercial performance.
- It encompasses the overall management of system, processes and people while fostering collaboration vertically with operations teams, client and senior management across business operations within the division.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business / Functional Management
- Execute project responsibilities in line with organisational strategy, to achieve set goals.
- Report to regional manager on operations and project performance.
Financial, Commercial and Contracts Management
- Implementing financial, commercial, contracts management processes and procedure, as set by the organisation, and give inputs to contract structuring.
- Responsible for managing site costing, as per standard policies and procedures for cost management.
Risk Management, Compliance and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) responsibility
- Be fully aware of the content and impact of new contracts i.e General conditions, and drawings.
Stakeholder Management (internal and external)
- Foster strong communication with client representative (i.e Resident Engineer) and other key mine stakeholders through appropriate forums and engagements.
- Manage key interfaces with client contractors, operations and local communities.
Operations and Project Management
- Manage tailings operations in line with company procedures.
- Project execution and risk management on one or multiple sites within budget, scope, timelines.
SHEQ Management
- Oversee implementation and compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) System.
- Execute zero harm mandate.
People Management
- Lead and manage project execution teams.
- Support, guide and coach teams.
Culture and Climate
- Build and sustain a culture of continuous improvement throughout the project duration.
- Align with client culture requirements as agreed with project management team, to enhance the client relationship.
- Drive Division’s employee value proposition and decent work principles.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc Degree / BTech in Mining / Metallurgy / Chemical / Civil or similar.
- A project or general management qualification will be advantageous.
- Remining qualification would be advantageous.
- Mineral Processing course.
- Mineral Residue Disposal course (MRD101).
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum five years relevant experience in respect of managing tailings and/or remining sites.
- Proven experience in various deposition techniques such as paddocking and cycloning.
- Experience in remining, deposition and construction would be advantageous.
- Hands-on experience managing leaders, labour and plant resources.
- Planning and commissioning of projects, preferably on tailings or re-mining operations.
- Minimum five years’ experience in a management role, preferably in a re-mining

- In-depth knowledge of mining, production and tailings operations.
- Understanding of applicable legislation, standards and bylaws relevant to the tailing’s environment.
