Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
- Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement and leadership in the School of Nursing.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and learning:
- Support with Teaching and Learning of research module in Masters and PhD research.
- Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate programmes. Develop, register, coordinate and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs).
- At the teaching and learning director’s discretion, assist specific schools where the incumbent has the knowledge and expertise with both undergraduate and post-graduate modules where requested.
- Coaching and mentoring in teaching and learning
Research and innovation:
- Increased number of publications.
- Conduct research and publish findings in respected national and international journals. Supervise master’s and PhD students.
- Conduct own Postgraduate studies. Initiate and maintain national and international research networks.
- Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
- Ensure effective research administration.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Unit where appropriate.
Community engagement:
- Leading in community engagement activities/projects.
- Register and lead school community engagement projects.
- Development of projects to the benefit of community, health and nursing service delivery.
- Work with related schools to promote inclusion and capability where possible.
Leadership:
- Assist in any research activity or take proactive actions to develop members of the entity.
- Serve on related research committees as directed by the research office.
- To stay abreast with new developments in research methodology and related fields.
- Lead students and support personnel in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
- Support and empower with nursing/health clinical programmes.
Ad hoc:
- Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the school.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Nursing Science.
- A qualification in any speciality in Nursing Science.
- A postgraduate qualification in Nursing Education.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a nurse educator and midwife.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in higher education teaching.
- A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience.
- A track record of master’s and PhD supervision
- A minimum of 2 publications in academic journals.
LECTURER
- A master’s degree (NQF 9) in Nursing.
- An honours’ degree in Nursing Education (NQF 8).
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in nursing or health field.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in higher education teaching.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as nurse educator and midwife.
- Publication of one article in peer reviewed journals.
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
- A qualification in any clinical specialisation (NQF level 8).
