Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  • Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement and leadership in the School of Nursing. 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and learning:

  • Support with Teaching and Learning of research module in Masters and PhD research.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate programmes. Develop, register, coordinate and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs).
  •  At the teaching and learning director’s discretion, assist specific schools where the incumbent has the knowledge and expertise with both undergraduate and post-graduate modules where requested.
  • Coaching and mentoring in teaching and learning

Research and innovation:

  • Increased number of publications.
  • Conduct research and publish findings in respected national and international journals. Supervise master’s and PhD students.
  • Conduct own Postgraduate studies. Initiate and maintain national and international research networks.
  • Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
  • Ensure effective research administration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Unit where appropriate.

Community engagement:

  • Leading in community engagement activities/projects.
  • Register and lead school community engagement projects.
  • Development of projects to the benefit of community, health and nursing service delivery.
  • Work with related schools to promote inclusion and capability where possible.

Leadership:

  • Assist in any research activity or take proactive actions to develop members of the entity.
  • Serve on related research committees as directed by the research office.
  • To stay abreast with new developments in research methodology and related fields.
  • Lead students and support personnel in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
  • Support and empower with nursing/health clinical programmes.

Ad hoc:

  • Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the school.

Minimum requirements

  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Nursing Science.
  • A qualification in any speciality in Nursing Science.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Nursing Education.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a nurse educator and midwife.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in higher education teaching.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience.
  • A track record of master’s and PhD supervision
  • A minimum of 2 publications in academic journals.

LECTURER

  • A master’s degree (NQF 9) in Nursing.
  • An honours’ degree in Nursing Education (NQF 8).
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in nursing or health field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in higher education teaching.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as nurse educator and midwife.
  • Publication of one article in peer reviewed journals.

ADDED ADVANTAGES:

  • A qualification in any clinical specialisation (NQF level 8).
