Senior Applied Economist at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification, preferably a master’s degree in economics
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant functional experience
• Proven experience in undertaking socio-economic Cost
• Benefit Analysis (and related techniques) and macroeconomic  impact modelling on infrastructure projects or policies will be advantageous
• Demonstrated problem solving abilities and adaptability across content fields
• Experience in the use and development of economic models
• Experience in the use of R and/or Python programming languages for data analysis and modelling will be preferrable
• Project and stakeholder management experience

Key Performance Areas

• Undertake economic modelling and customized research to inform City planning, policy, and decision-making.
• Contribute to applied economic analysis for line departments, including socio-economic appraisals: cost-benefit analyses for major projects and policies.
• Assist in the development of customised economic tools, frameworks and models that contribute to evidence-based decision making
• Provide specialist economic input and advisory services to strategies, policies, programmes, and infrastructure projects.
• Contribute to the ex-post evaluation of the impact of City policies and programmes
• Prepare high-quality, accessible reports and present research findings to senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
• Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, representing  the city.
