Job Description
- RPO Recruitment’s client, a reputable civil engineering consulting firm in South Africa is currently expanding their team and looking to appoint an experienced Resident Engineer to join their team on one of their latest projects in Cape Town. This position is offered as a limited duration contract of approximately 5-6 months.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily site activities to ensure construction is completed in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
- Monitor contractor performance, quality of workmanship, and adherence to project timelines.
- Implement contract administration functions, including progress monitoring, site instructions, variation orders, and payment certifications.
- Liaise regularly with the contractor, client, project team, and relevant stakeholders.
- Chair and minute site meetings, including progress and technical coordination meetings.
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, quality checklists, and test results.
- Enforce health and safety requirements in line with legislation and project standards.
- Provide technical support and resolve design-related queries or unforeseen site issues.
- Compile and submit progress reports to the Project Engineer or Team Leader.
- Support the close-out process, including final inspections, snag lists, and handover documentation.
Requirements:
- BSc/BEng/BTech/National Diploma in Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience in civil engineering construction supervision
- Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng/Pr Techni Eng registration with ECSA essential
- Experience in general civil infrastructure projects (roads, bulk and reticulation water, sewer and stormwater, urban upgrades, etc.).
- Solid understanding of contractual procedures (e.g., GCC, FIDIC, or NEC).
- Proficient in MS Office; working knowledge of MS Project or other scheduling tools beneficial.
- Strong communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites in the Cape Town region.
