Minimum Qualification / Experience:
- National Diploma/ Degree in Environmental Management, Science or other relevant qualifications
- 3 + years of relevant working experience in a similar role
- Valid driver’s license
- Willing to travel to different sites mainly within Gauteng
- Local exposure and regional knowledge will be an advantage
- The candidate must be medically fit in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act
- Own transport
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited not):
- Ensure all operations comply with national, provincial, and local environment legislation (e.g. NEMA,MPRDA,NWA,NEM:WA)
- Engage with internal stakeholders (Site Managers, SHEQ teams, Engineers) and external stakeholders (regulators, local communities, NGOs)
- Support public participation processes and respond to environmental concerns raised by communities or authorities
- Manage and ensure adherence to Environmental Authorisations (EAs), Water Use
- Licences (WULs), Waste Management Licences (WMLs), and other permits
- Oversee the implementation of environmental monitoring programs (e.g., air quality, water quality, biodiversity, noise, dust, etc.).
- Analyse and report on environmental performance indicators and ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are submitted as required
- Maintain up-to-date records and documentation for compliance verification
- Implement and maintain ISO 14001 or other Environmental Management Systems across operations
- Develop, review, and update Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and Rehabilitation Plans
- Monitor and evaluate progressive rehabilitation activities in line with approved closure plans
- Support the development and review of closure cost estimates and ensure financial provisioning aligns with regulations
- Develop and deliver environmental training programs to staff and contractors
- Contribute to corporate sustainability and ESG reporting, including metrics on carbon emissions, water use, waste, and biodiversity
- Support initiatives for climate change adaptation, energy efficiency, and resource conservation
- Participate and contribute actively in the Afrimat SHE network
