Brief Description        
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria to be appointed: 

  • Be able to teach planning theory and urban politics. Having experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage: land use management, planning law, planning technologies, development economics, community participation, municipal governance and quantitative methods.  
  • Undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience.
  • Capacity to supervise research reports at the tertiary level, preferably should have a record of research supervision at honours and masters level.
  • Evidence of organisational and/or leadership skills: experience of mentoring students and transformation in institutions of higher learning will be an advantage.
  • Good ICT skills especially the ability to navigate the terrain of online learning and blended learning.
  • Evidence of course or programme coordination at a university is preferred. 
  • Eligibility for registration with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) is a requirement.
  • A PhD would be a strong advantage. 
  • Minimum Qualifications: A SACPLAN recognised degree in Urban/Town and Regional Planning/Development Planning and a Masters’ degree.
