Key Accountabilities

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

  • The investigation, research and analysis of the competitive effects of mergers in terms of Chapter 3 of the Competition Act.
  • Writing of reports on mergers and liaison with merging parties and other interested parties.
  • Representation of merger investigation findings to the decision-makers in the Competition Commission and the Competition Tribunal.
  • To assist with administration, policy development and strategic planning and implementation in the Competition Commission.
  • The monitoring of mergers conditionally approved by the Competition Commission.

Requirements

We are looking for an individual who meets the following requirements:

  • An Honours Degree in Economics or a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree.
  • At least 2 years’ of relevant experience, including 1 year experience in economic regulation, research and/or competition.

Other considerations:

  • Practical work exposure to area of expertise (in mergers and acquisitions) will be further considered to balance against other requirements.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • A Masters degree in Economics or Admission or completion of pupilage for legal candidates will be considered an added advantage.
