Role Purpose/Business Unit:

  • The Commercial head will play a pivotal role in driving the commercial strategy and execution for Vodacom Business across the group. This executive position requires a dynamic and experienced professional who can lead and support commercial activities across 8 markets within the group.
  • The Commercial Lead will be responsible for product and solution pricing, sales commissions and incentives, commercial reporting, business case development, commercial advisory, and marketing support.
  • This person will be the commercial nexus for the group business function and in addition to specific roles, they will be responsible for commercial advisory across the markets to ensure best practice and skills transfer.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Product & Solution Pricing: Develop and manage pricing strategies for mobile, fixed, and converged solutions to ensure competitiveness and profitability. Many markets win deals through discounting on individual product lines, it is important we move toward integrated solution commercials that prevent like for like comparisons and are based on value and not just cost plus. It is important that this person has experience in pricing converged enterprise solutions across cloud, security, connectivity and / or managed services.
  • Sales Commissions & Incentives: Design and implement sales commission structures and incentive programs to drive sales performance and achieve revenue targets. Recently new commission models have been deployed, and now require optimisation and evolution to reach best in class to drive the right behaviour / performance while penalising those that are underperforming. 
  • Commercial Reporting: Oversee commercial reporting, including segment, product, and channel analysis, to provide insights and support decision-making. While each market has commercial teams, aligning on standard reporting nomenclature and performance metrics across all reporting items is critical. Generating insights on performance to drive behaviour is a critical success measure. 
  • Commercial Business Case Development: Lead the development of commercial business cases to support new initiatives and investments. This role needs to own the business cases for all Vodacom Group initiatives, working closely with product, solution, partner and sales teams to ensure projects are based on viable value cases that are accepted by group and local market CFOs and executives. This will also involve presenting such value cases in appropriate ways to create buy in with senior stakeholders. 
  • Commercial Advisory: Provide commercial advisory services to internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market trends. Some operating companies are missing key commercial skills, and where such gaps are identified this role will be responsible to work with these teams to close the gaps and drive commercial excellence. 
  • Marketing Support & Advisory: Collaborate with the marketing team to provide commercial insights and support marketing initiatives to drive the awareness of Vodacom Business.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Proven experience in a senior commercial role within the telecommunications industry, preferably within the business segment (from small businesses to large and public sector clients) 
  • Strong understanding of product and solution pricing, including mobile, fixed, and enterprise converged solutions.
  • Experience in designing and managing sales commissions and incentives.
  • Expertise in commercial reporting and business case development. Deep expertise in financial and non-financial modelling and commercial story telling to translate these insights into leadership recommendations
  • Excellent advisory and communication skills with the ability to influence and support senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple markets and cultures.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a commercial role within the telecommunications industry.
  • Minimum academic requirements: A bachelor of commerce / business science / BSc degree. Preference will be given to those with additional specialised learning including MBA / CFA qualifications.
