Purpose of Job
- Accountable for first line leadership and management of team members to enable the work of self and team members and building their expertise and skills, and deliver frontline team results such as Safety, Rail Signal Systems, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Cost and Motivation ensuring stability and availability of railway signalling systems, point set machines, diesel electric locomotives and rail car pullers.
- To manage, lead and coach the shift personnel to ensure an effective team delivering results according to operational targets.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintenance management of railway signalling systems (track detection, signal interlocks, point set machines).
- Electrical maintenance on rail car pullers.
- Electrical maintenance of railway network lighting systems.
- Electrical maintenance of Diesel Electric locomotives.
- Ensure effective execution of maintenance activities.
- Ensure maximum task quality, efficiency and effective use of equipment.
- Conduct inspections on all areas of responsibility as per schedule.
- Manage Personnel to ensure effective and efficient operations.
- Manage SHERQ system and ensure safety of personnel and Service Providers.
- Ensure that employees are trained and declared competent for all tasks in all positions.
- Control personnel clock in times on SAP.
- Regulate and execute leave plans and control absenteeism
- Compile accurate and reliable reports of daily activities.
- Assist the area manager with all information as required.
- Incident investigations and implementation of new work and regulations.
- Communicating effectively with customers, colleagues and other affected role players.
- Ensure compliance to all legal, statutory and Sasol requirements.
- Investigate and perform RCA analysis on all incidents.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / N3 with Maths, Science and English – Compulsory;
- NQF Level 4 Occupational Trade Qualification (Electrical or Instrumentation) OR NQF 6 Academic Qualification (National N Diploma in Electrical Engineering) – Compulsory;
- Diploma or Adv Diploma in Electrical Engineering – Advantage.
Minimum Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Electrical, Instrumentation or Telecommunications Field as a Senior or Specialist Artisan. Acting Experience as a Foreman will be an added advantage or
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Electrical, Instrument, Telecommunications or Rail Signalling Systems Technician;
- Identified and measured leadership competencies.
Specific experience required
- Must be able to work on SAP;
- Must be able to work on MS Packages;
- Must be able to read and understand instrumentation and electrical drawings;
- Must have experience on PLC systems;
- Must be able to review, update and write new work instructions.
