Description
- We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Financial Accountant, who will be responsible for managing and overseeing the financial accounting processes and operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance and supporting strategic financial decision-making. The role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and good understanding of IT systems and process flows and the ability to manage and mentor junior staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Financial Operations
- Oversee reconciliations with 3rd parties and resolving data issues
- Cashflow management and planning
- Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes and implement best practices.
- Support automation initiatives to improve efficiency in finance operations.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations, trends, and insights to management.
- Ensure accurate consolidation of group management accounts.
- Maintain the general ledger and oversee journal entries.
- Review balance sheet accounts, including intercompany accounts.
- Monitor and manage fixed assets, depreciation, and inventory accounting.
- Review and approve accounts payable and receivable processes.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, tax regulations, and corporate policies.
- Support internal and external audits, providing required documentation and explanations.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparing annual budgets.
- Monitor budget vs actual performance and provide management reports.
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and supervise junior accountants, ensuring high-quality work output.
- Provide training on accounting standards, processes, and systems.
Minimum Requirements
Requirements and skills
- Proven work experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and risk management.
- Must be good in adapting to change and resilient.
- Solid knowledge of accounting regulations
- Excellent math skills with an attention to detail
- Time-management abilities
- Qualification in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
- Additional certification (e.g. AGA(SA), SAIPA) is a plus
