Role Purpose/Business Unit:
- Responsible for providing legal advice to line leaders and executives of the Enterprise Business Unit in Vodacom South Africa on a broad range of commercial, legal and regulatory matters in a manner which ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Your responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for providing accurate, effective, and timely legal advice, analysis and support at an expert level on complex matters of significant, strategic and/or financial value to the Enterprise Business Unit.
- Negotiating with enterprise customers complex transactions and commercial arrangements relating to the company’s Enterprise Business Unit and providing legal advice regarding these transactions and arrangements to senior business stakeholders.
- Drafting a wide range of complex contracts for the Enterprise Business Unit.
- Collaborate with Vodacom Contract Management Team and work closely with the multi-disciplinary operational functions to draft service agreements for complex solution designs.
- Collaborate with executive teams to improve commercial strategy and devise negotiation plans.
- Maintain visibility across enterprise contractual commitments and ensuring alignment with commercial and operational teams.
- Identify and communicate legal and compliance risks and manage legal risk.
- Provide general legal guidance and advice to business.
- Draft promotion / competition / product terms and conditions.
- Manage and resolve customer disputes within the Enterprise Business Unit.
- Keep business stakeholders updated and briefed on key projects and risk management.
- Ensure that all legal matters are reported and managed in accordance with company governance requirements and processes, delegation of authority, and Group Code of Conduct.
- Actively participate in the broader Vodafone and Vodacom legal community to bring benefit from experience, expertise, and synergies to Vodacom.
- Keep Managing Executive: Legal Affairs and/or Chief Legal Risk and Compliance Officer (as the case may be) informed /involved on major or complex issues.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- LLB Degree and admitted attorney with a minimum of 8 – 10 years post qualification experience.
- Prior experience in providing commercial legal advice within a major law firm or reputable corporate.
- Extensive commercial law and commercial drafting and negotiation experience, with ability to provide timely, innovative and commercially-sound legal solutions in a fast- moving industry.
- Experienced commercial attorney with knowledge of telecoms industry and general technology law.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
Knowledge:
- Demonstrable wide-ranging commercial experience. (essential)
- Working knowledge of Competition Law, Data Privacy Laws and Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-related Information Act essential.
- Experience in assisting with advising on bids and related work advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry practices, laws and regulations relevant to Vodacom South Africa’s Enterprise Business Unit, with a deep understanding of the unique legal challenges faced by companies operating in the telecommunications and technology sectors.
