Job Profile:

  • Attends to specific priorities, administrative tasks and various Disaster Management activities
  • Monitors the execution of procedural applications, processes and actions
  • Assist in management and co-ordination of disaster operations
  • Assist with the compilation, updating and execution of the Municipal Disaster Management plan which includes the collation of information from internal and external departments as well as Local Municipalities
  • Identify, develop and maintain Disaster Management database
  • Give impact into the development, establishment and maintenance of an information-, communication- and reporting system
  • Development of risk assessment and risk reduction initiatives
  • Coordinate the provision of education and awareness programs of potential risks
  • Conduct research and development within the field of Disaster Management
  • Assist in the maintenance of Disaster Management Centre
  • Assist with the management of Disaster Management resources and equipment
  • Manage and implement the volunteer program

Requirements:

  • A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification preferably in Disaster (Risk) Management
  • DMISA Registration: Technician
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in the field of Disaster (Risk) Management
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence
  • Language proficiency in at least two of the three languages of the Western Cape Province
  • Must have good communication and presentation skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Required to be on standby
  • Required to work overtime during specific unplanned emergencies/disasters
  • Handling of conflict situations and attention to detail
  • The ability to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Physically fit and able bodied
  • Assist in the observation and co-ordination of disaster situations and major incidents
