Requirements :
- Valid Grade 12 Certificate. Basic qualification Accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice 425 (i.e. Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, a minimum of 7 years appropriate /recognisable experience in nursing after registration with SANC as a General Professional Nurse.
- A qualification in Infection Prevention and Control from a from a recognisable institution of Higher Learning and a minimum of 5 years working experience in Infection Prevention and Control unit and two years of that in a Public Health environment.
- Must be computer literate and must have good communication and presentation skills. Knowledge of regulations and guidelines in infection prevention and control, waste management, environmental health, decontamination of medical devices, respiratory hygiene.
- Knowledge and capacity to align current health and public policies and guidelines in the implementation of the IPC programme. Ability to work independently and to function well under pressure. Valid drivers’ licence will be an added advantage.
Duties :
- Implementation of the National Infection Prevention and Control Strategic Framework. Development and Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures in IPC, waste management, environmental health, and cleaning as well as decontamination of medical devices.
- Perform the duties of a Waste Management Officer for the institutions well as environmental health.
- Making sure that the institution complies with Ideal Hospital Realisation Framework, IPC standards and guidelines and IPC components as stipulated by WHO.
- Conduct training on IPC, Health Care Waste Management, environmental Health comply monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Conduct monitoring on compliance by conducting spot checks, planned audits to ensure compliance with IPC, waste management, environmental health as well as antimicrobial stewardship, respiratory hygiene and surveillance of health care associated infections and present feedback and recommendations in management meetings.
- Develop plans to deal with outbreaks according to National Guidelines on Epidermic preparedness and response.
- Develop IPC and HCW champions and conduct scheduled monthly meetings to identify gaps. Work harmoniously with all stakeholders including Supply Chain to ensure that there is adequate and relevant stock for the programme.
- Develop systems and processes for sterilisation and the cleaning department to meet the IPC and HCWM. Participate in the development of the demand plan for the programme by providing correct specifications as the end user and make sure that everything is procured within the first quarter of the financial year. Conduct awareness campaigns as per activities of the WHO and National Department of Health calendar.
