Brief Description        

  • The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. The purpose of this post is to provide support to the Teaching and Learning Unit, in collaboration with stakeholders, to further advance preventative and therapeutic interventions for students. The focus is on enhancing awareness, psycho-education and advocacy for mental health and wellness in alignment with the Mental Wellness Strategy for students and the Student Success Framework. 
  • The key areas of the post include: Advocacy, Psycho-education, Capacity building, Training, Counselling, Psychotherapy services. 

Requirements:  

  • A Master’s degree in clinical/counselling psychology 
  • A PhD in Clinical/Counselling Psychology will be an added advantage 
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist 
  • Two to five years’ experience working as a clinical/counselling psychologist.
  • Experience in the field of advocacy for mental health, training and student development practices in tertiary education would be an advantage. 
  • Formal or Informal experience in comparative interfaith and African spiritual care would be an advantage
  • Experience in the facilitation and presentation of psycho-educational workshops with students in tertiary institutions would be an advantage.
  • Excellent therapeutic and advanced clinical/counselling skills, in particular shorter-term/solution-focused skills 
  • Excellent crisis management and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to do occasional after-hours interventions/workshops/presentations.
  • Computer literacy essential
  • Knowledge of social media applications for advocacy would also be an advantage.
