Job Purpose
- The effective management of the maintenance and repair services relating to sophisticated electrical protection systems and associated equipment.
Key Responsibility Areas
- Responsible to the Manager Protection and Test for the effective control and functioning of the Protection Maintenance Division.
- Planning maintenance and test work of protection schemes.
- Conduct all maintenance and maintenance testing of the Units protection relays.
- Plan, schedule and record in electronic and hard-copy format the outcome of protection maintenance testing programme.
- Ensure the continuous and satisfactory operation of all electrical protection systems and allied devices.
- Install and wire protection relays and protection schemes.
- Ensure financial controls by monitoring expenditure to ensure adherence to budgets.
- Compile reports, maintain statistics and handle correspondence associated with the Protection Maintenance Division.
- Attend to correspondence, draft letters, memoranda, etc.as required.
- Maintain technical records and drawings of various types of protective devices and schemes.
- Undertake the supervising, training, developing and disciplining of staff.
- Keeping abreast of technological developments in the power system protection field.
- Appointment in terms of Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993) and associated Regulations.

Essential Requirements
- Bachelor of Technology Degree or Bachelor of Engineering (NQF Level 7) in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current).
- Registration as a Professional Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
- Valid motor vehicle driving license.
- 5 years post registration experience in the Electrical Protection environment.
- Computer Literacy.
