Purpose of the Role:
- The Assistant Bookkeeper will provide vital support to the Bookkeeper and Financial Manager by assisting with day-to-day accounting functions, reconciliations, and general financial administration to ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained in line with company procedures.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Capture and process daily financial transactions and journal entries
- Assist with debtor and creditor processing, reconciliations, and follow-ups on outstanding items
- Support with bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded
- Import and reconcile retail store bank statements and cash deposits
- Reconcile company credit card transactions and supporting documentation
- Assist with VAT preparation and submission of supporting documents
- Prepare and maintain general ledger schedules and assist with month-end procedures
- Support in processing intercompany invoices, payments, and credit notes
- Assist with checking GRVs (Goods Received Vouchers) and verifying supplier documentation
- Liaise with store managers on daily stock and cash-related queries
- Maintain an accurate filing system for financial documents (electronic and hard copy)
- Provide administrative support to the finance team, including ad-hoc reporting and data capturing
- Assist with payroll preparation and related reconciliations when required
Criteria
- Qualification in Bookkeeping or Accounting (Diploma in Accounting/Bookkeeping or equivalent)
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance support role
- Sound understanding of basic accounting principles and reconciliations
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (SAGE advantageous)
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Able to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit finance team
- Fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans
