Job Description
- We are looking for an Agrometeorologist to join a leading agricultural research and meteorology team in KwaZulu Natal. This is a highly technical role requiring expertise in weather monitoring systems, data analysis, and research to support crop forecasting and advisory services for farmers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, install, program, and troubleshoot automatic weather stations (AWS).
- Serve as the technical expert for weather station operations, supporting internal technical staff.
- Monitor and analyse weather and crop data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Extract, interpret, and report data from crop forecasting systems.
- Advise farmers and external stakeholders on accessing and interpreting weather and crop reports.
- Contribute to research projects with technical expertise and analytical insights.
- Stay updated on technological advancements and recommend improvements to systems and processes.
- Collaborate closely with crop modelers and scientific programmers.
Min Requirement:
- Master’s degree in Agricultural Meteorology or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as an agricultural meteorologist
- Strong technical expertise with automatic weather stations (installation, programming, troubleshooting).
- Data analysis and programming skills (Python, SQL, or similar).
- Ability to guide technical staff and support farmers and stakeholders effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and research capabilities.
- Valid driver’s license (required for travel to field sites).
