Description:

  • The School of Chemistry is seeking a Professor in Analytical Chemistry who will play a key role in shaping the educational and research experience of our undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as play an active role in the school.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Responsible for teaching Analytical and Environmental Chemistry at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels,
  • Expected to actively lead and participate in research, supervise postgraduate students, and provide academic leadership within the school,
  • Curriculum Development for Analytical and Environmental Chemistry courses offered in the school,
  • Expected to undertake administrative duties, participate in Faculty and University committees,
  • Engage in community outreach and social responsiveness projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD in Analytical/Environmental Chemistry is mandatory with a research focus that includes the development of novel techniques and their application in air monitoring, biomonitoring and environmental assessment. 
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in the field of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a sustained track record of scholarly publications in accredited journals, along with the successful supervision of postgraduate students.
  • A proven ability to secure external funding and evidence of national and international research collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and lecturing skills, coupled with a strong passion for teaching and research, are required.

Recommendations and Desirable Skills

  • Candidates with a track record of scholarly publications in accredited journals, an h-index of 25 or higher from recognised data bases. A National Research Foundation (NRF) rating is considered an advantage
  • Strong research areas and collaborations in the fields of analytical method development and applied environmental remediation.
  • Recognition by local and international research entities, industry and governing bodies.
  • Experience in engaging with and contributing to national regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior staff and maintaining a network of international academic collaborators is highly desirable.
