Job Purpose
New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) Context
- This post is in line with the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), which is part of the Staffing South Africa’s Universities Framework (SSAUF) – it is a national and sector response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff.
- The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills.
- The new generation of academics programme (nGAP), comprising one element of the SSAUF, involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics.
- Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens.
To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post:show interest
- in becoming an academic
- be 40 years or younger
- candidates must have a 70% pass mark for his/her Master’s degree
- show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme
- be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme
The purpose of this post is to support the department to fulfil its academic objectives which include teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in community engagement. The successful candidate will teach in the Nursing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in nursing sciences or equivalent qualification, awarded with a pass mark of 70% or greater.
- A qualification in nursing education
- Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse and midwife
- Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council as a nurse educator.
- A qualification in a nursing clinical specialization is advantageous.
- The candidate must be registered or prepared to register for a Doctoral degree.
Recommendation:
- At least one (1) year lecturing experience and/or 4 years clinical teaching experience in the nursing discipline after registration at SANC. (Preference will be given to applicants with lecturing experience)
