Job Description
- The Senior Financial Accountant is a strategic finance leader responsible for overseeing financial reporting, regulatory compliance and operational finance activities within OMART Insure.
- This role ensures the integrity of financial data, drives process improvements and supports strategic decision-making through expert analysis and leadership. The incumbent plays a key role in the application of IFRS 17, managing SAM reporting and enhancing financial systems and controls.
- Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Oversee the implementation and compliance of IFRS 17 across finance operations.
- Manage and submit SAM (Solvency Assessment and Management) reports, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, guidelines and protocols to uphold regulatory standards and best practices.
- Drive strategic investment decisions and oversee client investment portfolio performance.
- Conduct financial risk assessments and escalate findings to compliance and risk management teams.
- Enhance financial processes, systems and internal controls to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead financial systems changes by engaging stakeholders, identifying requirements and delivering solutions.
- Analyze complex financial data from multiple sources to support business decisions and performance monitoring.
- Represent the finance department in client meetings, presenting financial results and addressing inquiries.
- Manage premium collections and recommend actions for delinquent accounts.
- Evaluate client business plans, underwriting and reinsurance terms for financial viability.
- Contribute to business planning, forecasting and budgeting processes aligned with strategic goals.
- Monitor operational compliance and resolve noncompliance issues within finance operations.
- Provide expert advice on financial policies and procedures, resolving complex queries.
- Lead and mentor finance teams, including Client Services, Operational Finance Graduates and Accountants.
- Set performance objectives, monitor team performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Identify and address team development needs, fostering professional growth and capability building.
- Manage the SASRIA finance function and coordinate related audits.
Qualifications & Experience
- CA(SA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Minimum 2–5 years of post-qualification experience in financial accounting, preferably within the insurance sector.
- Extensive knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 17.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting and audit coordination.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing diverse finance teams and mentoring junior professionals.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
- Strong experience in SAM reporting and regulatory submissions.
- Expertise in data analysis and interpretation of complex financial datasets.
- Experience with financial systems, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of insurance finance operations and reporting, including SASRIA and cell captive insurance business.
