Job Description    

  • We have an exciting IT Systems Engineer role available in our 3rd-line POS support team. The successful incumbent will provide 3rd-line support to Stores, maintain systems and devices, manage escalations, and maintain accurate documentation. This position reports directly to the IT Systems Manager and is based at the Truworths Head Office in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities    
Support & Maintenance

  • Perform standby/on-call support in rotation with other team members.
  • Install, upgrade, support, and troubleshoot workstations, printers, scanners, PEDs, and other authorized network-connected devices related to point-of-sale systems.
  • Customize desktop hardware and operating systems to meet environment specifications and site standards.
  • Identify and repair hardware and software issues across supported devices.
  • Resolve hardware and network connectivity issues where applicable.

System Administration

  • Responsible for patch management of operating systems in store environments.
  • Assist in the technical upgrading and maintenance of the entire IT environment and systems.
  • Manage and support the testing and deployment of new applications and systems.

Diagnostics & Escalation

  • Effectively diagnose hardware and software problems and replace defective components.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the team leader or manager as needed.

Documentation

  • Ensure technical documentation is completed, accurate, and kept up to date.

Qualifications and Experience    

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Qualification or Certificate in Information Technology or other relevant qualifications from industry recognised institutes (A+, N+, MCSA, MCSE).
  • Minimum of 2+ years in roles such as Desktop Support Technician, Network Support Technician, Systems Administrator, or similar.
  • Operating Systems & Software: Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and experience in a Linux environment. Experience in installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting desktop computers, servers, operating systems, peripherals, and relevant software.
  • Networking & Connectivity: Strong understanding of computer networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP configuration, subnetting, DNS and DHCP and experience in configuring and troubleshooting networked devices.
  • Retail & Device Support: Experience working with and troubleshooting PED/card payment devices, Unified Device Management Systems& Wi-Fi and tethered scanners.
  • Support & Incident Management: Proven experience resolving end-user issues using an incident management system.
  • IT Team Collaboration: Assist the broader IT team with administrative and operational tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to provide after-hours support when required
