The incumbent will be responsible for:
Teaching in two of the following modules offered by the Department of Public Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, which involve taking a contextual and transformative approach:
- Administrative law
- Legal interpretation
- International air (aviation) law
- Public international law including international humanitarian law and international criminal law;
- Conducting academic scholarly research;
- Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision and research that is embedded in and responsive to the African and South African social context;
- Having an in-depth understanding of own area of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
- Supervising research students;
- Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Academic administration and management;
- Performing other duties as delegated by Head of the Department
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- LLM (preferably by full dissertation) in one of the abovementioned fields;
- Relevant tertiary teaching experience will be a strong recommendation;
- Accredited quality publication/s will be a strong recommendation;
- Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate’s research and/or teaching will be a strong recommendation;
- Relevant academic administration experience will be a strong recommendation.
Senior Lecturer:
- LLD / PhD degree in one of the abovementioned fields;
- At least five years’ tertiary teaching experience;
- 8 accredited publications in peer-reviewed journals of which three should have been published in the three years preceding the year of application;
- Conference papers delivered;
- Evidence of successful supervision of at least research master’s degrees or coursework master’s mini-dissertations will be a strong recommendation;
- Evidence of community engagement;
- Proven record of academic administration and academic citizenship.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
Demonstrable subject expertise and interest in the following area related to public law:
- Constitutional Law.
