The incumbent will be responsible for:

Teaching in two of the following modules offered by the Department of Public Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, which involve taking a contextual and transformative approach:

  • Administrative law
  • Legal interpretation
  • International air (aviation) law
  • Public international law including international humanitarian law and international criminal law;
  • Conducting academic scholarly research;
  • Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision and research that is embedded in and responsive to the African and South African social context;
  • Having an in-depth understanding of own area of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
  • Supervising research students;
  • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Academic administration and management;
  • Performing other duties as delegated by Head of the Department

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

  • LLM (preferably by full dissertation) in one of the abovementioned fields;
  • Relevant tertiary teaching experience will be a strong recommendation;
  • Accredited quality publication/s will be a strong recommendation;
  • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate’s research and/or teaching will be a strong recommendation;
  • Relevant academic administration experience will be a strong recommendation.

Senior Lecturer:

  • LLD / PhD degree in one of the abovementioned fields;
  • At least five years’ tertiary teaching experience;
  • 8 accredited publications in peer-reviewed journals of which three should have been published in the three years preceding the year of application;
  • Conference papers delivered;
  • Evidence of successful supervision of at least research master’s degrees or coursework master’s mini-dissertations will be a strong recommendation;
  • Evidence of community engagement;
  • Proven record of academic administration and academic citizenship.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

Demonstrable subject expertise and interest in the following area related to public law:

  • Constitutional Law.
