Job Description
- RPO Recruitment’s client, a leading and reputable construction company in South Africa is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to join their construction team on one of their latest projects in Bethlehem, Free State.
- The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety procedures on our building sites to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislation.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Ensure that safety practices are adhered to by all workers, subcontractors, and visitors on site.
- Report and investigate any incidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions, and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety training, and inductions for new employees and subcontractors.
- Maintain safety records, documentation, and incident reports for compliance and audit purposes.
- Collaborate with site supervisors and management to ensure a culture of safety is maintained across all operations.
- Ensure the correct use of PPE and that all safety signage is displayed and up to date.
- Liaise with local authorities and ensure all construction activities comply with statutory safety regulations.
Requirements:
- Matric Certificate
- SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent Health and Safety qualification
- Valid registration with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Safety Officer is highly desirable
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry, preferably in building projects
- Solid understanding of OHSA and construction site safety practices
- Strong communication, observation, and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid South African driver’s license
Benefits:
- Salary: R288K – R336K CTC per annum with accommodation provided
