Minimum Qualifications / Experience / Competencies:
- Grade 12
- A technical/engineering qualification with Rock breaking certification would be advantageous.
- Be competent and willing to fulfill the 2.13.2 Legal appointment under the MHSA.
- 10 years’+ of operational mining/quarrying experience, with at least 5 years in a management position and a proven track record as a 3.1 (a) legal appointee.
- Valid unendorsed RSA driver’s license
- Good understanding of quarry planning, development and geology.
- Thorough understanding plant efficiency requirements and upkeep of maintenance practices.
- Sound knowledge of the MHSA, MPRDA, and other relevant South African legislation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent project and financial management expertise.
- High level of integrity and commitment to Safety; Health; and Compliance.
- Proficiency in relevant mining software (e.g., MS Office, Mine Planning Software).
- Must be medically fit
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Must have the ability to work under pressure and be deadline driven.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited not):
- Fulfill the 3.1(a) Legal Appointment under the MHSA.
- Oversee daily quarry operations including drilling, blasting, crushing, and haulage.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and implement mine plans and production schedules.
- Manage budgets, assets, resource allocation and cost control.
- Lead and develop site teams, fostering a culture of safety and performance.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., DMRE) and ensure legal compliance and participate in DMRE inspections on site
- Participate in ASPASA and internal health and safety audits
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and report on production metrics and site performance.
- Maximise opportunities through innovation to increase Afrimat competitiveness in the market
- Drive Afrimat’s continuous improvement plan
- Assume full responsibility of both De Kop and Saldanha Quarry sites until the divesture of Saldanha is concluded
