Job Purpose:
- To install, commission, repair and maintain all supervisory and substation security systems/equipment.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Responsible for the construction, maintenance, operation, repair and testing SCADA related equipment and substation security equipment in substations.
- Updating various system databases and compiling substation wiring schedules.
- Conducts fault finding, troubleshooting and problem solving for system/equipment operating malfunctions.
- Installing substation security equipment and assists with commissioning of substation equipment.
- Repairs and maintains all equipment under control of the Control Systems Section.
- Updating computerised records relating to system faults and maintenance applications.
- Promotes safety and accident prevention in the work place in accordance with his or her appointment under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993).
- Timeously submits relevant paperwork preceding, during and on completion of work.
- Provides specialist technical advice and instructions to new electricians and subordinates; supervise, motivate, train and discipline apprentices, trade workers and other trainees.

Essential Requirements:
- Trade Tested Artisan (Electrician).
- In possession of a NTC2 or NCV3 in Electrical Engineering from a Further Education and Training college registered with the Department of Education.
- Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code EB or EC1) as applicable
- Valid First Aid Certificate or be trained within 6 months from date of appointment.
- Must pass a proficiency test, set by the department, to prove sufficient general knowledge of electronic systems associated with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and substation security systems.
- 3 years relevant post apprenticeship experience in the Electricity Supply industry.
