The wild Cape Town weather is set to take another turn for the worse on Sunday evening. Following the onset of an almighty storm towards the end of last week, a second cold front is preparing to wreak more havoc in the Western Cape – and a fresh set of weather warnings are in place for the next 48 hours.

As well as swirling winds and a deluge of rain, the possibility of snowfall remains strong over the mountainous regions. Over the next two days, the following Cape Town weather warnings remain in place:

Cape Town weather for Sunday 13 July

  • Strong interior north-westerly winds (50-60km/h) are expected over the Central Karoo and Breede River Valley today. Meanwhile, ‘gale to strong gale force north-westerly to westerly winds’ of up to 100km/h are expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas tonight Sunday, spreading to Plettenberg Bay on Monday morning.
  • A weather watch has been issued for rainfall on Sunday night, with advisories in place for Cape Town, Ceres and Theewaterskloof. These will only become ‘warnings’ with the threat of floods on Monday morning.
