The CSIR have a vacancy for Specialist: Public and Private Sector in the Business Excellence & Integration portfolio. The purpose of this role is to build and maintain relationships with the public and private sector in order to create value and maximise impact for the CSIR through strategic partnerships.This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain portfolio of relationships with the public and private sector;
  • Support the development of appropriate models and mechanisms for partnering with the public and private sector;
  • Assess and facilitate organisation-wide partnerships and collaborative projects with the public and private sector;
  • Provide guidance and support to the organisation in unlocking funding opportunities;
  • Advise the organisation on latest changes in the funding landscape for CSIR projects;
  • Create appropriate governance mechanisms for organisation-wide collaborative projects with the public and private sector;
  • Provide secretariat support for organisation-wide relationship governance structures with the public and private sector;
  • In partnership with the Human Capital portfolio, facilitate organisation-wide exchange programme for employees to the public and private sector;
  • Compile quarterly reports on the status of organisation-wide partnerships and quarterly insights on market trends and disruptions;
  • Coordinate industry engagement platforms that will generate new funding for RD&I projects;
  • Support business units by ensuring that RD&I projects are based on defined industry needs;
  • Assist in the implementation of systems and process to ensure coordinated engagement with the private sector;
  • Ensure the organisation is represented at private sector events to promote the CSIR to industry relationship;
  • Coordinate CSIR involvement in key national initiatives;
  • Disseminate information across the organisation on government R&D priorities;
  • Coordinate and assist with organisation-wide submission of proposals to government departments.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • An Honours degree in science, engineering or technology with five years; experience in relationship management at a university or research and technology organisation;
  • A Master’s degree in science, engineering or technology and postgraduate qualification in information management or business management would be advantageous;
  • At least eight experience in strategy development and business planning at organisational level;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Experience in securing research funding;
  • Experience in supporting RD&I projects;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
  • Financial managemen;t

  • Proficiency in general management including conceptualisation, planning and organising, negotiation, performance monitoring and management;
